Finding a practice that helps you achieve your dreams and goals can be a difficult thing. The reality is that almost ‘any man and his dog’ could start a GP practice. There are very few barriers to entry in the GP market – little to none really. Maybe Tucker our resident Toy Poodle could even set up his own practice. And while Tucker and his capable paws (he has learnt from the best – his colleagues obvs!) could lure you in, it might not be your best experience.
Jokes aside, the reality is that it’s difficult to tell the difference between a great practice and a mediocre one… and there are far more in the latter category. There is also no system for rating practices or making sure that WYSIWG (what you see is what you get).
In fact, we have come to understand that assessing a GP practice is an art – not a science. Luckily, having been in this industry for a long time, this is where we can provide some guidance.
We work solely with practices that promote good culture. We assess how a practice feels as we walk in – assessing the practice management and receptionist team; the consulting rooms; and the general ambiance. This assessment is made both from a patient’s perspective – “Do I feel welcome, safe, and comfortable?” and as a place of work.
We want to place GPs in long-term assignments where they can build up a strong patient base and feel secure. For that reason, we are extremely selective with who we work with, whereby in some cases, politely decline to work with practices that fail to meet our expectations.
We are very selective in terms of the practices that we work with. With offices based in both Melbourne and Perth (and traveling around the country pre-COVID), we make it our mission to go and view the practices to get a real feel for them.
