‘Winter’ is coming – and UK GPs know it

There’s a ticking time bomb for UK GPs looking to come to Australia. The combination of changes to the current 457 visa system and the RACGP’s proposal to revise the specialist pathway, has resulted in an increase of UK GPs applying for jobs down under. Now is the time to plan ahead and secure a quality GP for your practice.

Being well connected in the General Practice space allows us to have the most up to date information on any changes that are likely to affect our clients and candidates. When we sent out word to our UK prospects about the potential changes to gaining fellowship in Australia, we received an overwhelming response.

As a result, the last three weeks at Alecto have been pedal to the metal, as work through this rare influx of UK GPs who have contacted us in the fear that they may miss deadline of the RACGP’s proposed changes.

Under our advice, many of them are underway with their registration and are looking for the right job offer, in readiness of submitting their application for fellowship with the RACGP.

Now is the time for practices to be proactive, plan ahead and have a look at the need for a GP over the next 6 – 12 months. There is no questioning the quality of UK GPs. But the reality remains, that they need to get their fellowship applications submitted in the next few weeks.

If you are a practice located in a DWS area, can sponsor a GP on a temporary visa and are planning ahead for the needs of your practice, contact us today so we are sure to recommend your vacancy to these proactive UK GPs.
