Alecto connects UK and Irish GPs with Australian employers, giving them the chance to experience what living and working in Australia could look like. In 2026, we’re partnering with several clients on UK visits, allowing doctors to meet employers in person and explore opportunities before deciding to relocate.

From 12-May to 18-May 2026, UK and Irish GPs can book a one-on-one meeting (in-person or via Zoom) to explore what life and work could look like as a GP in Australia. These sessions are relaxed, obligation-free, and designed to give you honest, practical insights into Australian general practice.

Why UK and Irish GPs Are Choosing Australia

Australia continues to be one of the most attractive destinations for international GPs — and it’s easy to see why. Many GPs relocating from the UK to Australia are seeking:

✔ Higher earning potential

Australian GPs commonly enjoy significantly higher billings and earnings compared with NHS GP salaries. Click here to see the results from our latest Australian GP Salary Survey to find out what you could earn.

✔ A portfolio-style career

Australian practices often encourage GPs to develop special interests such as:

  • Women’s health

  • Skin cancer medicine

  • Urgent care

  • Chronic disease management

  • Mental health

You can diversify your skills, build niche expertise, and design the kind of medical career that suits your goals.

✔ Better work–life balance

Australia’s lifestyle is a major drawcard, offering sunshine, outdoor living, flexible hours, less bureaucracy and more time for patients.

✔ Strong professional support

This GP group is one of the largest employers of British doctors arriving in Australia. They are known for structured onboarding, strong mentorship, and a supportive environment that helps doctors thrive both clinically and personally.

✔ A clear pathway to permanent residency

For many GPs, the ability to gain PR after two years of work is a major incentive, offering long-term stability and choice.
