What can we expect in 2018 within the GP sector? This year looks set to be a year of changes and reforms. Here is the latest information we are hearing:

DWS Changes 2018

The latest information is that the whole DWS system is undergoing a review and may be changed in February. We are told that DWS status of an area or LGA will be based on direct data from Medicare. DWS changes every year in February, which we are all very aware of.As soon as the DWS map changes, we will send an update to all clients.

RACGP Pathway

The RACGP will implement changes to their Fellowship pathways around mid-2018 and are focused on creating one ‘unified pathway’ for all GPs. This system will reportedly focus more on experience and expertise rather than the qualification country. The RACGP will also abolish the current FAEG. Major changes to 19AA so that all GPs are Non-VR in the RACGP stream. GPs will need to work in Australia for a few months before being granted FRACGP. These specialist GPs will be able to access A1 Rates if the appropriate legislative changes are introduced. The RACGP is working with AMRANZ members and keeping us informed of changes. As soon as any information is received it will be distributed to clients.

Visas and Immigration

Changes to the 457 visas come into full effect from 1 March 2018. These changes are not predicted to affect GPs at the moment, except that applications will be more expensive. For more information please go to our Visa informational article for sponsors.

While changes are coming, Alecto Australia always focuses on flexibility and constant improvement. We are represented on the AMRANZ council and will be informed of any changes.
