Across Australia there are many Paediatric jobs available. Currently Queensland has the greatest need and they have some great packages on offer for suitable Paediatricians. There are also jobs available in other states. We have a number of preferred employers who are currently looking for locum and permanent Paediatricians.
General information about Paediatric jobs in Australia:
• Earning capacity – As a locum you can earn between $A1,800-2,800 a day + travel and accommodation allowances. In a permanent Paediatric job your total package may range between $A250,000 - $380,000 p.a. The package will usually include allowances for things such as your accommodation, vehicle and training. Your earning capacity depends on where you work (the more rural and remote, the greater you can earn) and your level of experience and qualifications.
• Qualifications – you will need to have an MBBS that allows you to gain registration with the Medical Board of Australia. You will ideally have FRACP (Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians) in the specialty of Paediatrics. If your training is from outside Australia you will need to have specialist/consultant qualifications. These may or may not be recognised in Australia.
• Responsibilities - Typical Paediatric jobs in Australia are based in major hospitals and include a range of responsibilities. These may include providing paediatric services to the hospital and the surrounding communities, teaching and supervising house officers and interns, conducting clinical ward rounds and outpatient clinics, being part of an on-call roster, participating in CME (continuing medical education).
•Unique clinical experience – If you choose to work in a regional setting you will benefit from a wide breadth of experiences that you won’t find in metropolitan settings. These regional settings also provide more unique opportunities for clinical leadership that would not be available in large teaching hospitals.
